From page 14 in the manual: "it gives a very slow beep for x band (brap for k band, brap-brap for ka band)."
V1 rocks. I just got mine. bogey counter and arrows are key.

I've got the Beltronics RX65 / Same as the 8500 but I'd say it's more closer to the V1. Having had both the V1 and RX65 I'd would go back and get a V1 due to the Arrows. Once you had it , it's hard not having it.
