Default Tunitas Creek Road... don't drive it

hey guys, since I've moved to Mountain View I've been taking as many opportunities to toss my S around on the sportbike/sportscar playground known as the Santa Cruz Mnts. (even got some big props from a guy at Alice's Restaurant asking me all about the S).

Peninsula and S. Bay guys I'm sure know all about the roads up there, but Tunitas Creek Rd. is-- unfortunately-- one to avoid. sure, it's steep, twisty, and scenic-as-hell, but it is WAY TOO NARROW and after having to brake and pull way to the right to let a big truck or overzealous car (out of it's element, typically) squeeze by, more than a few times, in both directions... I won't be taking that road anymore. and I'd advise u guys of the same. there are a lot of other equally or more fun roads on this ridge that have a far lower likelihood of a head-on crash.

FYI

Please watch for deer.

Movies like Bambi depict deer as kind, innocent, loving creatures that are harmless. In reality, they are ruthless, vicious, blood thirsty, psychotic animals that stop at nothing (suicide even) to inflict pain and death to innocent motorists. We hunt them for a reason!!! Be careful out there, we don

my tip to you guys is, take it easy on mountain driving
sure we all like to have fun, but mountain driving is dangerous

1) Learn the abilities of your car by starting out slow and gradually pushing it to its limits.
2) Learn the road. Even with this one, there's always a possibility that it has changed since you were previously there. Wildlife appearance is random, new potholes are made everyday, even weather can affect it.
3) Getting into an accident up there is tragic. Here's some of the many reasons:
- you lose your car, at least some downtime
- cops patrol the area more often now
- you might get hurt/die
- more money to spend on the car to make it normal, instead of using it for mods.

My friend crashed his car on the first turn a while back just because he didn't know the road, his car ended up upside down, totalled and down for 3 months.

bottom line: mountain driving and track are two different things, be cautious, don't try to show off to your friends and don't spoil the fun by bringing more cops to the area.

yes it seems like i'm lecturing but i've seen too many instances where the mountain area gets shutdown/ patrolled for a couple weeks after an accident, therefore disabling the ability for others to go and have fun.

I love Tunitas Creek. Take my bicycle there. Great work out. good for quiet contemplation while suffering up the climb.
