Default trusted mechanic

Hello all,

i am in need of a trusted mechanic that knows his/her way around the s2000.

i have an incredibly discouraging noise coming from the rear of my car. i brought it to a local shop and they couldn't find the issue. the local mechanic shared his opinion that it was an issue of the driveshaft and recommended me to go to Honda to have it checked. i trust his advice, and value his honesty in not wanting to work on a car he was unfamiliar with.

i'd like to use Honda as a last resort, as that is probably the most expensive option.

any mechanic recommendations around the milpitas/san jose area would be truly appreciated!

some info on the car - 2001 w/ 108k miles, stock, never tracked, never raced...

thanks in advance

-ck

I agree on the axle nut part...
you have to re torque them to the right specs...
Just go to blacktrax in Milpitas and Jei can help you with it.

per yamez' suggestion, come on down to the friday night meets where the diy gurus frequent and let us help in figuring out the issue... im pretty sure its the notorious axle click, like nij ninjitsu said, it just requires tightening of the axle nut (size 35 i believe) to 220 ft lbs .

You can also try John at Exact Motorsports in Milpitas. He is the only one that I trust with my S2000.

Thank you all for your suggestions! I definitely appreciate it. I'll check out blacktrax on Friday.

Regarding the noise, it's more of a repetitve squeak that only appears after a long drive. The squeaking comes up as I come to a stop within about 15 mph and slower. It progresses to get louder as I slow down. Also the repetitiveness of the sound slows down as my car slows. Not a click at all. Would this rule out the axle nut issue as it's more of a squeak than a click?

Thanks again
