What I don't understand is why a Vespa would be on 9. It is bad enough when cars hit cars there. At least on a motorcycle you would have one element (speed) to avoid a collision. On a Vespa you don't have sh!t.

I wish the victim the best of luck and a speedy recovery... but damn... jumping out of planes is fun too, but you don't see me doing it.
Andy, I don't think in this case a scooter or a motorcycle would avoid it since it was a head on crash (I believe on a turn). Actually a motorcycle might have been worse since the speed differential would have been higher

No way I would be on a bicycle or a scooter on 9 regardless of the scenery. Cars move too fast on that road, too many blind corners, and too many drivers using more than their lane.

Cyclists try to monopolize the lane while going downhill to maintain momentum and avoid punctures. I understand why, but I don't agree with it. But as NWD_NCKT said, to each their own. Life is all about decision making and the consequences. With that said, I hope the rider makes a speedy recovery.

I just re-read my post, I guess I am just getting a bit old.

Entirely possible that a motorcycle would have been worse, yes. I suppose I went off on a tangent saying it would be better to be on a motorcycle. My intention was not to prove that a motorcycle would have been better, but to say it is rather unsafe to go on 9 "without a seatbelt." EVERYONE knows 9 has crazy automobile drivers. Hell half of the people who have posted in THIS thread have ripped the shite out of 9 (myself included... ).

Anyways... I will close by saying good luck to the guy and I hope he gets what he deserves out of Mr. Lexus.

I must say that Club Lexus has gone above and beyond the extra mile to help the victim, who isn't even one of their own. To my understanding, they have made substantial contributions to the victim's donation fund. Correct me if i'm wrong, but i heard that his recovery fund has reached and surpassed 14,000 dollars with the help of Vespaforum and Club Lexus.

I also read somewhere that he and his wife were newly weds that worked multiple jobs.

It's a sad story, but we were all young once right? Hell, i still am SUCKA!

I'm just happy to hear that he's recovering, and seems to be getting a lot of support from the community.

It's refreshing to see the "Good will" in people these days! Clublexus in reality really has not direct fault in the accident besides having a dumba$$ guy on their drive who was/was not part of the forum.

I think the moderators at CL has stepped up big and created this fund raiser for the injured Vespa rider. Getting injured sucks but having some monetary funds always helps.

This incident just reminds the rest of us no matter how much fun we want to have, sometimes it's best to weigh the dangers involved since it could happen to anyone and our health is the most important thing!

For me I'll stay off those roads unless I'm in my SUV

Food for thought, you are 6 times more likely to kill occupants in a SUV-to-car collision then in a car-to-car collision. On of the primary reasons for this is SUV's tend to ride over the safety crumple zones of most cars.

Vu, I'm very aware of this....my point was I would never speed on those roads and being in an SUV will make me less likey to go fast

Also not to sound cruel but if some idiot is speeding and wants to hit me, certainly not my fault and too bad for that person but I want the most protection for myself and my occupants. I'm installing metal brush guards on the SUV later this week in fact....
