You're gonna be doing 100+ with the windows down and a helmet on (I wear earplugs, too). You're not gonna hear your stereo.

My first track day at laguna seca rules were Heater on full, windows down, no stereo allowed. Shoes required. *shrug* I don't think this is quite as formal as that was.

If you are playing music and actually listening to it, then that requires some degree of your brain's attention to do so. I would think you would want all of your brain's attention focuses on driving and not part of it listening to music.

just curious... can i have music playing?? when i drive through the mountains i blast my music.. helps me concentrate...
You may think so, but I seriously doubt it.
It could possibly help but not in the right way. We can only process so much information and drowning audible sounds from the car may allow you to focus that concentration elsewhere.

Definitely not saying it's right or something that should be done.

Another Thill video from my racecar. Tires are RA1s. Revs on the left, speed in mph*10 on the right. 4.44 diff so the gear selection won't match a stock car:
Make the video big and select 720p so you can see the details better:

if you have the bandwidth to listen to music you're not driving fast enough.

Not hitting 100 MPH and listening to music? You are definitely doing it wrong.
