Default Tire "tread" vs. Tire "thread"

I've always called the grooves on my tires "treads", which I believe is the right name.
Countless times, I've seen people type and heard people verbalize this same part of the tire as "threads".

What is the correct name?

Are people calling the cords "threads"?
I don't think so because I know people are referring to the grooves on the tires, the same thing that I call "tread".

I also hear the header/headers names thrown around, and we all know the correct term by now for that.

i always call them treads not threads. they could both be correct but i always assumed that people were making a mistake/typo when they said threads...

Tread. Thread is what you sew with.

Header = Singular
Headers = Plural

S2K only has one.

it's treads if you are talking about the grooves on your tires.

I used to be a grammar nazi like you, until I took a self understanding to the head.

love how they show using the different coins to measure tread depth... or you could just collect all the coins from between you couch cushions and buy an actual tread gauge!

My guess is that it would to find a major website involved with tires that uses the term thread.
