Default Tire Recommendations

My beater broke down and left me stranded in the rain the other day, so I'd like to buy a set of winter tires for my good old S.

I've been looking through the tire rack, trying to find some good tires to put on my S but most people out there have to worry about uncivilized things like snow and weather below 40*. That isn't much of a problem here in wonderful California.

So far, I'm running on S02s all around, with plenty of tread on the front and some semi-worn ones on the back. I've been keeping it under 4k, but I'm still losing traction every so often.

I've learned from the mistakes others have made before me and I'd hate to crash my baby by cheaping out on tires. What do you fine guys recommend for a nice set of tires which will keep me alive in the wet?

Too long;don't read: Recommend me some tires.

P.S. Aaron, your rear bumper worked like a charm. I forgot to thank you for saving me all that money

I did well with the 265 wide SO3s even when they were worn. I currently have Yoko AVS Sports and they are not as good even though they have more tread. The new Advans are supposed to be better, but I can't comment yet.

goodyear eagle f1 gs-d3 have really good wet traction. it's dry traction is above average as well. as a matter of fact, 2 magazines (car & driver, and some other mag) rated this tire as #1 amongst the ones they tested.

s03's if you want more wet traction. personally, i find the s02's offer plenty traction wet or dry until the wear bar. Then look out on the wet stuff.

I personally hated these tires. They last much longer than SO3's but not as grippy. They also proved very dangerous to take hard turns until they are VERY warm too. Just my 2 cents.

Sumitomo HTRZ. They are a REALLY good tire for the money.

Or you can always go with Toyo RA1
