It looks like the SCCA requires a roll bar for this event:
see the Safety section:
http://www.thunderhill.com/checklist.html
The last time I checked, the SCCA won't let you run with the stock roll hoops.

I attended the thunderhill "street school" a year ago last feb. At that time the stock roll hoops were acceptable. This was my first ever track or driving event. I thought it was great. They tend to be very safety conscious and strict. I was in the slow group and both the slowest and the middle group had to have an instructor in the car at all times. I felt reasonbly safe and had a great time. I will definitely attend one of these again some time.

Peggy Hale is a great lady, she runs it with Dennis (husband). I've taught at their autocross schools and a makeshift school at thunderhill, and will be teaching at their miata school next weekend. I highly recommend you take any driving course you can get registered for!!!! This is a great class and a great price. With Jim Russel and Skip Barber you pay a lot more for driving on the well-known tracks and from these more established schools, but the thunderhill school is very very good.

Here's the update...I just got an email from Shannon Ell at Thunderhill who is the Operations Manager and he/she said that we can run our cars with the top up...which is fine with me!
So, I'm signing up for the May 5th class today! Hopefully, I'll see some of you there!
