Tesla and Toyota.. I didn't see it coming..

Good move for Toyota since their biggest market for EV's are in CA.
At the level of production which will be less than 3,000 cars I don't see how this company can occupy NUMMI, a fraction at best. NUMMI is soo big!
UAW shouldn't be celebrating just so soon, this is not going to bring back 4000+jobs overnight.
In the long term, I'm excited to see where this joint venture takes CA and EV technology.

They have plans for a mass production car in sub 30k range with Toyota @ NUMMI, I believe by 2012/13
The other is the Model S, which was slated as a 2011 model. I don't have a clue of what's going on with it yet.
Updated- Jobs list posted up for Tesla. Good luck guys.

Great news for the Bay Area economy. Tesla had already considered NUMMI and decided against it, right? But presumably with more cash from Toyota and Toyota's experience at the plant, it was more viable.
This could also lead to increased EV options in Toyota models, I suppose, which is a good thing IMO.

I interviewed with Tesla a couple of years ago back when they were trying to get their latest round of funding and they mentioned this was a strong possibility (due to issues with GM). It was either that or they were going to build a building just west of McCarthy Ranch near the substation (They purchased/leased a plot of land with some sweet incentives from San Jose/Santa Clara). But everything was contract job because they kept laying everybody off previously. Hopefully they are on more stable ground!!! I don't know dickemsquat about electric vehicles... but anything at Tesla would be a SWEET job.

Curious as to how the Model S can fit 7 people. Looks a bit too cramped for me. I applied for one of the sales position, sounds like an awesome position.

I've always wondered what they were building out there. It seems to be a slow work in progress...
