Mobil 1 is ok. The 10w-30 from them is thinner than other syn 10w30's.

no no....when I pull the plug and the oil comes out. do I have to re-plug it, add synthetic, then drain it again to get rid of the extra regular oil?

So far I've been (was) using MOTUL and I think it is pretty good and reliable eventhough it is bit expensive...

10,000 mi. is the conventional wisdom.

I spoke to two Honda Master Mechanics and they both recommended waiting until 10,000 miles to make the change to a full synthetic oil... They also recommended changing the Tranny and rear end oils at 10,000 miles. This school of thought is right in line with those expressed by Ford Master Mechanics when I switched my 03 Cobra to synthetic, and other mechanic friends. It is also in line with most of my gear head racing buddies.

The reason for changing the Tranny and Rear-end oils is to get rid of the small particles caused by the initial wear and tear of the breaking-in period. Honda, like all other car manufacturers, recommends that you change these oils at 30K but by doing the first change at 10K you will enhance the life span and performance of the aforementioned drive train.

BTW, I have used Red Line, and AMS Oil... Red Line is good but too expensive. AMS Oil on the other hand is as good and can be had at a very reasonable price. Then there is Lucas, Mobil 1 and a host of other synthetics. If one changes the oil every 3K miles religiously, one can use almost any good brand.

Then there is MOTUL engine & transmission oil imported from Japan. I have been talking to my friends at Opak Racing and they are importing it to try it on the Spoon racing cars this season... Mark and Edmund will let me know their verdict after trying it on their cars after a few races... Will keep you posted

That reminds me, Hiro-san, I will check on your order of Motul oil... Will let you know...

No just transfer the old stuff to the emergency reservoir, just in case the main oil in the pan runs low, the one in the reservoir will automatically compensate... (just kidding) Of course you drain the old stuff...
