Hi all,
I was wondering what people's thoughts were on the stock alarm in the bay area. Do you believe that it is sufficient, or were there actually times that an aftermarket alarm (w/ proximity and all that good stuff) protected your car in such a way that a stock alarm would not have. I basically want to know if it will be worth the extra cost to install an aftermarket alarm.
Oh, and I was getting confused with some of the information floating around. Some sources seem to state that the 2001 s2k's come with the alarm system while others do not. Could someone clarify this for me? Thanks.

Hello,
I don't think an alarm comes with the 2001 S2k. It comes with remote locking/unlocking/trunk release though. So although you get the flexibility of having a remote, there's no alarm on the 2001 S2k. I did get a Pursuit alarm (with proximity sensor) as a dealer option though, although I only use it in no-so-safe areas. Usually, I just lock the doors and walk away. I've heard that it might be better just to keep your doors unlocked so thieves won't be tempted to cut up the roof or smash your windows.
All in all, this is something you have to deal with for
any convertible. Just don't keep anything really valuable
inside. If someone wants to steal something they will, alarm or not. Just my opinion.

Damn SilverSurfer I park all the time with the top down, even before I put the stock alarm on and never had garbage thrown in the car, that's just vengeful kind of crap. I mean I don't leave it for hours on end in bad areas, but I usually don't think twice about activating the alarm and walking into a store or restaurant. This is the second convert in a row for me and the previous car had a key with a chip in it also, real good idea but you take a chance anywhere. KimchiHo, I'd say take normal precautions, lock valuables in the trunk, be careful where you park, and use the alarm so it has a constantly flashing light to keep the honest people honest. It may be smarter to keep the top down to avoid damage and show there's nothing to steal.
