Default stereo headunit: ipod ready?

Hello
I'm thinking about upgrading the stereo head unit, I would like a one that is able to connect with any MP3 player. when a head unit has the "ipod ready" feature, does that mean any MP3 player has the USB portal can be hooked up or just IPOD?

Also when i checked best buy, and checked fitment, only a few that fits my 05, does any one know why is it difficult to find a stereo head unit that fits?

Thank You

When a head unit has the "ipod ready" feature which most do, it means that it's guarantee to work with ipods. Other mp3 might work but it's not guarantee. But usually if the mp3 player connected through USB shows as a storage device with viewable music files, it's highly possible it'll work. Another way of explaining it is if the mp3 player is plug into a computer and it act just like a flash drive, it's highly possible it'll work.

Only single DIN decks fits the S and there are a lot of them. Have a look on Crutchfied. Also remember if you want the car driver dash audio controls to work, you'll need to get an adapter such as the
Modifry.

s2kn05 couldn't explain it any better... any single DIN unit will work... no dash kit required, all hardware comes off the original stereo. When they say "ipod ready" some will require additional hardware to make it work... this hardware normally has a cable to connect directly to your ipod... not USB. check the box if it says its included.

If you want any MP3 player to work, you will have to find one with an AUX port that uses a headphone jack to connect, however you will not be able to control it through the dash.

I went away from MP3 players and just use a 16GB flash drive... holds all my music i want to listen to. I have the Alpine CDA117. this comes with a USB cable and an adapter that converts it to an ipod connection (must use if you are connecting an ipod)
