If you go to court and ask the clerk for traffic school, they will reduce the fine. I had a $200+ ticket reduced to $74 total (50mph in a 35 zone).

I got written up a while ago for 80 in a 65 on 280 northbound right past the 92 intersection. I had just done an oil change and lubed up the chain on the 1000RR, coming home from riding skyline. I leaned into the 92E looptyloop onto 280N and I just had to gun it.

I checked for traffic, but I didn't check my 6 for cops. Whatever my bad. I deserved the ticket. The CHP was cool, asked me to PLEASE slow down in the future. He was appreciative at the fact that I was in full gear, held out the key with my hands clearly visible when he pulled over, and most importantly didn't have a shitty attitude. Pretty much the best thing you can do for yourself when you get pulled over is just to cooperate and make the cop feel he is in a safe environment (no sudden movements etc). At least that's what my landlord (who's a sargeant) tells me.

In reality, I was in agreement with the CHP officer that my actual speeds were significantly higher than 80. He was laughing about how he couldn't keep up and was right about to ask for backup when I slowed down. Having said that, I think I got off easy...

Everyone knows that cops are out there for a good reason. I'd much rather them out patrolling the streets as opposed to not. Anyways keep it safe...
