we pay so much for insurance but we barely get to use them. but by the time we need it they don't give us the money we need. WTH is up with that...?!
Yeah, that's terrible An insurance company that won't pay the claims when they are supposed to is worthless

you know whats even more worthless is i brought this issue up to the government organization that oversees insurance companies and they said "the insurance companys are the expert in determining what's what, we cannot tell them to pay for a customer's claim, they make these decisions based on their judgement. theres nothing else you can do unless you hire a lawyer and bring this to court."

Read the estimate, how much hours did he give you to replace the top? Dealerships/shops in general will quote you a much higher price than what's actually needed because their walk in rate is typically higher, particularly dealerships.
You insurance will base their estimate on bodyshops and their labor rates, but they have to match dealership labor rates since their not part of their labor survey, but they will only pay book time for it.
Book time according to CCC is 10.4 hours for a soft top replacement on a 2000 honda s2000, I believe AAA uses Mitchell. Times that by 70-80/hr depending on what your insurance pays, and that's your labor. So you're looking at least 700 bucks of labor that he will owe you.
Take a look at the estimate again and see what's up.
Unfortunately I don't know any good trim shops in sf, but I do know of one in oakland, Hank's Trim in Alameda (google them), small little shop but they do good fast work. Another place is in san jose called Bascom's. Both can do our tops, won't rip you off, adn can do the glass conversion. I believe both use robbins tops as well. I know that most trim shops will quote about 800 bucks for the work btw.

well.. i have allstate.. this happend to me in san mateo.. maybe a angry patient of mine? i dont know.. but i did bring my car to my friends shop.. and he said he would fight insurance. thanks friend.. he said insurance is making up stuff.. hopefully they would cough it up..

the estimate the adjuster gave me had a labor price of 900 and using a non-oem rag.. id say use oem and labor at my friends shop is much cheaper.. but yeah.. hopefully everything ends up well.. bahh.. still looking for a hardtop tho.. berlina black or nfr..

my car got vantdalized twice, once at the pacific east mall (ranch 99 in el cerrito) and another at my school. they happen within months of each other, and i guess when i reported the claim they wouldnt believe me. i didnt do anything wrong and the AAA rep was an asshole.

and no i didnt switch to another company because i'm under my parent's insurance. i hate AAA... anyway sorry to go off topic
shoot, not driving to pacific east in my s2k... o____o; i'm scared now.

ironically, one of the earliest moments of an s2k for me was my friend's ap1 at that mall. when we finished karaoke-ing (i know, azn... lol), an ap2 of the same color (silverstone) was parked next to it.

he smiled like a girl and took a picture.

YES DOAN, THAT'S YOU.

A non oem top is going to run you about 550 bucks from topsonline (bought my glass back one from there) and it comes with the conversion kit. Most of the larger insurance companies will write for used/aftermarket if they;re available, and msot of these companies have a thing that you sign that says you're forgoing the oem parts coverage (which will raise your premiums). In short, sounds like dude wrote u a fair estimate, 900 bucks for labor is about what you'd expect for a bodyshop/trim shop to do it for, dealerships will of course be higher. If you absolutely must take it to the dealership, then your adjuster will have to write it with the dealer's rates since you have the right to choose any shop for the repair work and dealerships don't fall in their labor survey, but be sure that the dealer does the work themselves, otherwise they'll write it for the shop the dealer sublets to.
Unfortunate though, most adjusters don't know how to find aftermarket tops, most just write for a new oem or used.
