Default Soft top repairs

Anyone know any good soft top repair places? Mine keeps tearing on the passenger side when I drop the top.

IF it keeps ripping, you may need to check the metal bar to see if there are any rough edges catching the soft top. It's a known issue especially on the passenger side.

I'll add a link when I get the chance, but it's ripping on the passenger side at both the soft top latch and above the window, next to the elastic strap.

I did notice that it's hard for the top to drop sometimes without an extra push. I have the modrify strap, if that helps. It seems like I'll be patching until I can pick up a hardtop at the very least.

I had the same thing happen to my s2000. My is a 2007 model year. I was out of warranty by only 3 months when I found the hole. I used s2ki to find what was causing hole. I barely had 10,000 miles when I found this service bulletin back in 2010. My car is a Canadian one and I bought it in Canada 2nd hand. I showed the dealer this service bulletin, they opened a case with Honda Canada for me.

Since I was outside of warranty by date, but well inside for mileage, Honda Canada offered to reimburse me for the part only (the entire stop top and glass). But I had to cover labour. The dealer was nice enough to honor the 8.2 hours of labor at a reduce rate as well, because I said ok to the repair and said is the 9.2 hours accurate. They said no, but they will take care of it in good faith.

But in the end it took them something like 19 hours and the car moved to a body shop after they removed my original top. The body shop sanded/ground down the rough spot on the hoop, then they rewelded steel back onto the hoop. Then they matched the black wrinkle paint finish. The car was then towed back to the Honda dealership. Then the dealer then installed a brand new Honda soft top.

Not cheap. Out of pocket I spent around $1000 CAD

I showed another fellow s2000 guy in Toronto. He was about 1 year outside of warranty and too had very little mileage. Honda Canada now says there is a patch kit available made by Honda. But if you keep patching the spot that rips the patch just starts to rip. The key is to fix the high spot/rough spot.

The soft top hoop has a kink causing a burr when it was formed into the shape it is. Feel for it, you can feel it by running your hand/finger along the hoop.

Got my top replaced and frame de-burred in the last month of my warranty. Dodged a bullet there!

Nice share. I don't have a soft top in my car, but this is good information.
