maybe that is why people say "IF"
I guess same goes for speeding too, IF you get caught theres pretty hefty fines, possible impoundment, etc... but ppl still do.

A true environmentalist wouldn't be driving a gasoline powered sports car. They would be driving a hybrid or all electric vehicle.

I would have to agree with the post above. It seems like a lot of unnecessary work and worry to have a test pipe. If you do get caught (and it does seem to be highly likely, considering I was almost cited for my HKS exhaust), it sucks to have to put your cat back on and go to a referee, then go back home and take it off again. I'm guessing it would be a little more labor intensive than mounting and then removing a front license plate.

Also, Brian mentioned that he doesn't want his car to be constantly dirty. To me, having a 2~5 gain in hp doesn't really justify the fact that I'll have to constantly wash/wax/clay bar the bumper. Not to mention the fact that you could melt the rear bumper, too. That would be a pain (in the wallet) to replace.

I think those that choose to run a test pipe just need to play it safe. Don't drive like an ass around cops. It's pretty easy. You'd have to be a dumbass to be driving aggressively when a cop is near you for them to see/hear/smell evidence of a test pipe. I'm sure those with highly modified s2ks or really riced out ones with cheesy paint schemes or park benches mounted on their trunks will always get unwanted attention. I've seen plenty of people running with no cats or no mufflers or straight pipes even and they don't have any problems with cops. Having a test pipe also doesn't melt your bumper nor do you need to clay bar your bumper. It's just carbon (that's what it looks like) buildup that *easily* dusts off.
