Default Shop in South Bay for clutch replacement?

My clutch has slipped in 1st gear on two separate occasions in the last week. I've also noticed that the clutch no longer seems to grab as solidly as it once did. I suspect that I need a new clutch. Any recommendations of good independent shops to take my car to? Preferably in the South Bay. I'm trying to avoid the dealer, but need this done quickly, so I'm open to all suggestions.

Also, is there a consensus on a good all-around aftermarket clutch? Cost would be a big deciding factor. I'm leaning toward going with the Honda OEM clutch, but am also open to suggestions here.

Btw, does 54k miles sound too low for the clutch to die? I know it depends on driving style, but is 54k miles within a reasonable range? It seems early, but I did learn stick on this car...

Thanks for any advice guys.

Sounds like good wear based on mileage.

If you want to upgrade anything, I would recommend doing the pressure plate, and flywheel.
Not necessary, but your revs will climb a little faster.

Thanks Asura...I'm defaulting to going with OEM parts for now, but am browsing the archives to see what upgrades others recommend.

Are there any shops you'd recommend? Or do most folks go to the dealer for new clutches?

I plan on doing it myself. Shouldn't be that bad with airtools. Atleast a full 5 hours. I have no idea what labor is like if you go to the dealer.

the tranny is fairly light, and it shouldn't be too much trouble. I've benchpressed a few FWD and AWD trannies in my driveway, the s2k should be a piece of cake.

famous last words of course.

Hey cyber....don't go to a dealer...they will charge you an ARM and LEG....do it at any independent clutch shop....there is a pretty good one on El Camino in Santa Clara.....i'ts called Clutch Mart....friend of mine recommended...I was going to check them out myself...but let me know if you check them out...and you should look into getting something besides OEM parts...just my personal opinion...OEM grabs like crap and you get a much better feel and life out of a nice aftermarket clutch...like and ACT Street setup...don't get a full race setup but get a good street setup aftermarket clutch...u'll definitely notice the difference.

Personally, I wouldn't want ACT in my drivetrain after some of the stories have heard.

If you are NA there is no reason to upgrade anything unless you want a slight performance benefit.

I have heard good feedback from people using the following combo.

Toda or Comptech flywheel.
Mugen or OEM pressure plate.
OEM clutch.

Your flywheel should not need replacing.

cyber x,

Where are you taking it, and what was the labor quote?
