I have read a number of posts regarding notchy transmissions and grinding. I've had what seems to be the notchy problem ever since I've had the car (Dec 1999). It hasn't gotten worse, but it has never gone away.
The symptons: When shifting, feedback like a little kickback, through the shifter. Haven't been able to isolate specific gears (although mostly noticed in 1-2 and 2-3). Also, even if warmed up, it still happens. Also, it doesn't seem to happen all the time, but it is often enough to be annoying.
Has anyone in the Bay Area experienced this and had it corrected at a dealer in the area?

I have. I think that my clutch doesn't fully disengage. I am going to purchase an aftermarket clutch system. probably need to replace a bunch of crap in my tranny too...honda never did a good job fixing my tranny but they refused to service it anymore. fsckerz.

I believe I'm noticing the same thing as you guys.... Seems to happen only during an extended decel in 2nd or 3rd gear. Pressing the clutch at about 3k rpm or so after deceling from >5krpm the clutch seems to continue to grab even when pressed as hard as possible. Indeed with the clutch pressed I can give it some gas and tho the clutch slips the car will start to accelerate(actually not slow down as much as before). When this happens during a down shift the engine rpms will not drop and I notice a fair bit of force is required to bring the stick out of 3rd gear... after the stick is in neutral the engine rpms will drop to idle.
I'm going to try a couple of things to see if it remedies the situation... the first being a flush of the hydraulic clutch fluid and replacement with Motul600 or something similar. If that fails to help then I'll try to adjust the clutch pedal throw... I think i should be able to add about 1/4" to 1/2" of throw by adjustments to the pedal.
Ohh yea... I have had the TSB work done at Menlo... and had a Toda Flywheel and ACT pressure plate installed along with the new Honda clutch disk.

Well, I went to Menlo Honda (which is close to my home and where I had the car last serviced) at lunch today and asked for Chuck. He took one look at the VIN and said that they would take the transmission apart and replace, etc. whatever it needs.
My car is a 2000 purchased December 31, 1999 and is number 1859. Chuck said that any car under 2100 may have the production problems related to synchros which was changed after that the first 2100 cars.
According to Chuck, Menlo Honda has two technicians who have been trained to work on the S2000 and these are the guys he has take care of major problems.
I am scheduled to take the car in on Tuesday and leave it for two days (with a rental provided at no charge). I'll post the results of this highly invasive surgery after I get the car back and have driven it for a few days.
Thanks to passleft for referring me to his thread on this subject.
