Scratch On Rental
Hey guys,
While renting a car from Enterprise it got damaged overnight while on their lot during my contract. I'm responsible due to the contract between them and I.
Quote has 7.8 hours in body work @36/hour and 5.9 hours @36 to paint. $118 in paint. This all seems very high for the amount of work.
However they've come back at said it's $690 to fix this.
Pictures below. Does that sound like a responsible price? It's a Maaco quote.

that looks like it can buff out unless the black isnt the other cars paint? how are you responsible for it when its on their lot? its like saying your car is on my property and you are renting the car and if it gets hit, its your fault? unless i totally misunderstood

I'd gladly pay $680 to fix that damage if it was my car.
You'd be surprised how expensive it is to fix "small" things like this.
You'd likely have to repaint both doors completely, and blend to the fender and rear quarter.

That's scratch looks like it would come off buffing it, but the dent won't. If it was in their lot I wouldn't pay them jack!!!!
The thing that will rub me here is that I'm pretty certain that they won't even fix that right away. They'll leave it till later. Now the nice thing about this is that they didn't charge you Loss of Use. That could have been a ton more.
DId you use a CC? If you did then they should cover up until your insurance deductible price. Even if you don't apply to your insurance(which you shouldn't because the raise in rates isn't worth the $). You should be out only a little, if your CC covers up to the deductible then if your deductible is say $500 you'd only be out $180.

I returned the car one night and returned to do the paperwork the following morning. I have a very good relationship with this location and there has been no question - no one believes I did the damage. Had I, I would have brought it to their attention.
I guess I'll just see if they can help me out any and if not just pay the bill.
FYI Damage wavier is $9-15/day. That's often 40-60% of what I'm paying for a rental car and running the figures; it normally doesn't pay. I've not had an issue with rental car damage in 4 years and I've probably rented for 200 days.
Had I bought their $15 insurance every day, that would be $3,000 out of pocket for insurance.
My point in this post is not to get out of paying but simply to do a reality check on the cost of work. I had estimated the cost at around $300. Had it been done on my watch I would likely have buffed out most of it and they would have over looked it as minor nicks.
Enterprise as a 3inch rule, where if a scratch is under 3 inches the customer is not charged 'damages'.
