Gordon Biersch Brewery(sp?) for lunch most defenitely
2 Harrison Street San Francisco, CA 94105
its got pasta, burgers, beer, etc.
its a really nice place, i love the view from the restaurant and the food is great. maybe im just biased because i havent been there in so long and i used to go there when i was younger, but yeah. i also planned my prom night dinner here, but thought it would be a little too loud.

also,

Beach Chalet is a pretty nice place
located next to the beach at 1000 Great Hwy, San Francisco, CA
pasta, steaks, ribs, etc. a really nice dinner place
also has a great view of the ocean and the beach and the food is pretty good too.. can get a little bit pricey but it isnt too bad. also, it is located at a historical spot i think and downstairs there is a room filled with historical accounts and objects describing San Francisco and how the beach chalet came to be.

What type of food do you enjoy (ethnic, American, Italian, French, etc.), what price range (cheap eats, fancy, etc.) , and what type of atmosphere (romantic, fun, fancy, don't care)? Answering those would help out a lot...I prefer smaller (and cheaper ) local places myself, but have been to all the expensive ones (Aqua, Gary Danko, Boulevard) as well. Off the top of my head, below are some of my favorites in no particular order...let me know if you want more.

PPQ Dungeness Island (25th and Clement) - Better and cheaper than Thanh Long/Crustacean and great spicy friend crab and garlic noodles, this is my favorite crab place in the city.

Pizzetta 211 (211 23rd Ave near California) - Awesome small sized pizzas, even smaller sized space.

Kappa (1700 Post in Japan Town Center) - Great Japanese small plates.

Nopa (560 Divisadero Street near Fell) - Delicious Mediterranean plates and open late. Very hard to get reservations.

Swan Oyster Depot (Polk at California) - The best oysters (plus crab and limited smoked seafoods) served at the same retro counter since way back. Long waits though there's nothing better than 3 dozen fresh oysters and a few Anchors at 11am!

EOS Wine Bar (@ Cole and Carl) - Informal drop in style place with the same Asian-influenced small plates (and large) as served next door at the restaurant. If you like wine, they guys/women behind the wine bar know their stuff and they get some really great limited wines.

Balompie (3349 18th Street) - Awesome pupusas and soccer on all the time in the Mission.

Goood Frickin' Chicken (10 29th Street (at Mission St & Tiffany Ave)) - Another Mission spot and second best chicken to Zankou in LA, this is some excellent roasted or oven baked Mediterranean-style chicken. Good sides too...

Saved the best of these recs for last...
A16 (2315 Chestnut @ Scott) - Don't know how I could've forgotten it until now, and even despite all the yuppies in the Marina, this is probably some of my favorite Italian food in the city. Featuring food from Campania in Italy, the food here is great. The prices are not so bad, but reservations or waiting to get a table here is pure hell. Yet it's still worth it for the amazing fresh pastas, homemade salumi, pizzas, the fresh burrata (ironically enough from LA), and the amazing wine list.

Check out this website:

www.jatbar.com

Two guys go around restaurants around the bay area and rate them, and give detail review as well.
