i know used japanese cars in general rose in price due to the tsunami/earthquake event in japan.

Deals can always be had if you have cash and find a desperate buyer

I know this one guy that will drop his pants to sell his s2000 to pay off his debt....

I suspect when you pick a larger sample you'll find it's on the decline. It's still less than MSRP. Will it take 30 years to return to it's original value? Maybe but $33k in 2000 won't be work half as much in 2030 in real dollars.
