Default S2k currently Appreciating? vs Depreciating

Hey All,

So for some reason, I have a entire spreadsheet of EVERYTHING of what I done to my vehicle via excel... from first purchase at the dealership, date, costs, maintanence, what i paid for, mods, vendor i purchased them from, the date of install, all broken down from the unit cost/tax/shipping/total cost.. labor if any etc etc, you get the picture.

Wish i did this from the start, but started this year becasue I was serious about upgrading into another vehicle that has my attention.. I started recording the KBB value of my car every month just to see the depreciation or how well the value maintains of what I paid vs KBB... and wanted to share this with all of you...

so for my 06 s2k in excellent condition...seems as if the value has been going up! take a look...

as of 2/7/2012 KBB = $17,100.00 Excellent Condition
as of 3/8/2012 KBB = $17,204.00 Excellent Condition
as of 4/10/2012 KBB = $17,799.00 Excellent Condition, 83k
as of 5/16/2012 KBB = $17.841.00 Excellent Condition, 84k
as of 8/10/2012 KBB = $18,082.00 Excellent Condition, 84,298 miles

That is real time data checks on those dates for my S, not made up at all. and obviously the mileage only went up slightly but guess so did the cost?... damn, i should have recorded the mileage... k, guess i'll start now. the check on 4/10/12 is currently at 83k.

anyhow, just wanted to share that... Cheers!

I guess it depends on the time of the year. With summer coming up, people want more convertibles, I guess.

That's a good point, but how do modifications to the car affect the resale? I think the target market of the car is lowered if the car is modified (rolled fenders, etc.)

When I was shopping for a car, I would have only paid the "excellent" price if the car was untouched and completely stock. I am pretty picky about my car, though.

Traditionally, convertibles fluctuate a few % up and down in price with the seasons, just like motorcycles.

Additionally, any kind of seasonal appreciation is probably pretty close to our current inflation rate

I do believe the demand for S2000's are going up a bit. A lot of the younger generation is probably interested in picking up a S2000 because they're more affordable and offer a lot for your money.

actually, almost all used cars rising in price because the economy is recovering. I remember in 2008, you can buy 2002-2004 M3 for $12K - $15k
