Default S2000 Tow Hitch & Bike Rack Options?

Hey all,

Trying to get back into biking, and thinking of getting a rack for my s2k. Blasphemous, i know, but think it would be cool for my gf and i to take our bikes on roadtrips. We already have a rack on her SUV, but my s2k is a lot more FUN! (for me) lol

Anyways, I did do a search on the other forums and Google. The relevant threads on here are pretty outdated, and I feel like Google tends to send me on wild goosechases, when it comes to s2k info. Any of you using a hitch (and rack) on your s2k? I don't plan to tow anything. I want the hitch mount to avoid the rack and bikes damaging my trunk or bumper.

Thanks in advance, & Happy Monday??

Cliff Notes:

--want a hitch mount bike rack
--what hitch?
--what rack? (for 2 mountainbikes)
--prefer an inconspicuous/stealthy one

btw, i've seen the Gladman stealth one. Apparently, there was some controversy over it being stolen from someone else's design. don't want to send this thread on a tangent about that. i'm more concerned about the other claims i read that some of the hitch mounts were failing, due to bad welds though.

Subscribed! I know another S owner who went with the glad fab hitch and 1up rack. When I do find a hard top, was thinking of using the sea sucker mounts. For now I just ride to my bike route. Gives you more mileage.

Hard Dog makes one but I think there are other brands that replace the rear bumper bar for a stealthy look.

i was going to get the gladman fabrication stealth mount hitch, but as mentioned, i read about a couple guys having the mounts fail, due to bad welds. i've been happy w/their battery & master cyl covers, but def lil concerned about the failure claims.

haven't seen one. my gf & i are just casual bikers, not hardcore ones. i used to do flatland freestyle bmx & a lil bit of quarterpipes back in the day (pre x-games stuff, for you kiddies) lol but just looking to take our bikes on roadtrips to ride on paved trails in tahoe, santa barbara, socal, yosemite, etc

thanks, can't find much info on the hard dog one. a few random vendor shots of the mount pop up on google, but no installed shots.

cmon, gotta be some s2k bikers or even auto-x/track guys that have hitches & racks!

^^^^ NICE PICS IF YOUR LITTLE CAR WITH THE BIG RACK....I MEAN, TRAILER!!

seriously, that's pretty cool & surprising that you can tow something that big!

can you post a rear pic of your car? a close up woupd be nice too. i want to see how the hitch looks mounted. does the license plate slide down, like the gladman hitch or do you have to take off the plate?

also, where'd you get the hitch, & how much?

thanks!

i dont know if you can see it clearly but it mounts under the bottom of the bumper.. It mounts on using 3 places. 1 by the differential mount, and 2 on either side of the bumper crash beam (bracket sandwiched between frame and brace). This design is made to be quick release (cotter type clip and slide pin) for easy removal when not in use, however you can use nuts and bolts for a permanent install. I dont know the actual rating for this hitch but it seems to be maxed out when i was towing the uhaul trailer. I also notice it was extremely stressful for the power-train and drive train as i was towing.
