I think the FRS would be a good complimenting beater/daily to a weekend/HPDE S2K or other car. After a few years, the used prices on a FRS shouldnt be too bad.

Im considering doing this maybe 3+ years from now once the platform has developed further; should make for a fun all around daily driver.

EDIT:

I just spent a couple hours watching a bunch of track/mountain/street video reviews of the FRS & it sure does look like it handles well - its balanced. You can easily induce an oversteer drift that looks to be very subtle, smooth & controllable for the moderate-advanced driver. I feel like it makes the driver feel secure during the slide/drift - something that can easily be learned in the FRS where as in the S2K I feel it takes driver skill & extended practice. The lack of HP is easily assisted by the lower CG & handling of the chassis thus giving it that balanced appearance.

It's almost as if the FRS is competing with the Nissan territory for sideways action & ease of recovery.

Greddy already came out with a turbo kit & there is an all track setup FRS that is tearing it up on Laguna. This truly looks like a promising car for tuners & enthusiast to build upon for the next decade to come.

I think the only thing I would do out of the box is depending on the suspension, lower it a little, use stickier tiers & a couple of breather mods to help with throttle feel if needed. Not sure how well the brakes work - I saw tests of 60-0 in 118ft. Maybe some pads & fluid to get it track ready. All my speculation at this point.

If you can lighten this up by 100lbs or so; I think it would help tremendously especially if unsprung weight.

I'll probably be shopping for an FR-S rather than another s2K later this year. I've been outrunning "faster" cars with slower cars for decades. More fun that way and I learn better technique.

I've been seeing BRZ's around my area much more often as well....I think it's a well designed/engineered car for what it is and for the price.

That is not really a fair fight to be honest. Both around 2800lbs and one has 40hp less and has more tire. Not to mention the BR-Z is significantly cheaper than an S2000 of any era. "The best Subaru/Toyota can make"?! Subaru has already built an entire generation of cars much faster than an S2000 in a straight line for years and years now for around the same price, and Toyota has this car from the 90s called the Supra, maybe you have heard of it?

I can't wait to drive a BR-Z/FR-S/86! I am sure it has a very similar personality to the S2000.

Your dad seems like a fantastic gentleman. Make sure you let him know I think the world of him and that he is a credit to the human race! Also, maybe he lets me borrow the keys to both of those cars, maybe? (said in best Zoidberg voice)
