Mayor Gavin Newsom and Board President David Chiu later today will introduce a $368 million bond measure for the November ballot, which would improve the city's notoriously pothole ridden streets and cracked sidewalks.
The money would repave streets, repair stairways and sidewalks, build curb ramps accessible to people in wheelchairs, among other things. It is estimated that the construction work would create 2,650 jobs.
The idea isn't new. In fact, it's part of the city's 10-year capitol plan, a blueprint for upcoming projects agreed to by the mayor and board. But what is new is that despite Newsom and Chiu butting heads over the Muni budget, they at least agree those Muni rides (and other vehicle rides) would be a lot more comfortable on smoother streets.
