Whenever I sell something like that... I always setup the meeting area in front of the Police Department. If the other party is hesistant to come, it probably means they are crooks or the modifications on their car are illegal

sucks to hear Rick.. i don't know if it's still same system, but Metro PCS can't be traced, it's prepaid, and with no verifications of any info that may have been provided.. That's why all the hustlers used to use them.
to be honest though, if you could catch him with such limited information, he's got to be one of the worst thieves ever.. Hopefully he even gave you his real name, and wasn't lying about being from Merced. At this point, you could be tracing some totally random and unrelated person named John Dao from Merced.
Anywho, good luck- at least you came out safe and alive!

Maybe he really was saying "I am John Doe!" and you misheard him.
Don't be too hard on yourself. It was a very shocking event and most people would probably have reacted similarly. It's easy to say you could have ran after him in hindsight but I think not running after him is a smarter move. If he is capable of such a bold act of stealing, the last thing you would like to find out is if he is also capable of murder.
I don't totally agree with having to make CL deals in public places. I have sold some of my home audio gear on CL in my home. They are pricey so I expect my prospective buyers to want to audition them before they buy. Don't get me wrong - when my customers get in my house, I know they will feel like if they tried to steal from me, they will not get out of it alive. I am very comfortable in my territory. I treat them nicely and I'm honest with what I sell so I know that if they buy my stuff, they will be happy.

[QUOTE=jujuizm,Mar 17 2009, 09:31 PM]yea seriously.. the cops should find real robbers and freakin scammers, instead of wasting time giving us tickets for not having front plates..

Just in case there was a misunderstanding... I wasnt posting this in reference to you or anything you posted. My response (above what I addressed specifically to you) was in response to the "cop hatred" that is so prevalent just about everywhere on this forum. I even quoted one of the posts. Everything above was addressed to others. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
