actually hwy 1 is only tons of traffic near metropolitan areas. Once you get out of the city areas, it's quite nice. Not barren so you can't rip through the road... but you wouldn't want to. The scenery is second to none

you should take hwy 1 all the way down to san diego and back. Plenty of camping places along the way....plus Hearst Castle, Monterey Bay aquarium, Santa Cruz, Laguna Beach, La Jolla, Santa Monica...

1. you're in the right place
2. I'm sure we could set something up
3. maybe as it gets closer
4. after you cross the golden gate bridge from sf. My avatar pic is from that rest stop/lookout. The view of the city is great from there.

As far as the drive up to oregon
Watch out for deer.
The drive and scenery are great and if you haven't done it then you should.
My wife and I have done highway 1 to Tillamook, Oregon as well as several other highway 1 trips

well the first time i went up 1 there was traffic because of 2 accidents that occurred within 4 hours from eachother, 1 being fatal i think.
