They have to be placed in the front of the vehicle. According to CVC's if the state supplies 2 one is supposed to go on front and one on rear. They'll still give you a ticket so you might as well not put it on the dash.

i heard if u put it on ur dash, its pretty much telling them to pull u over cuz u dont want to cover sometin up in the front or somtin, like a front mount or i dunno somtin. so if i really bring it to a nearby copstation i can change it to 10bux? does it have to be a SF one. or can it be in san jose or something.

Last time I checked the front windshield was still in the front of your car.

Read the specific statute in the CVC. It has specific requirements with respect to height and location and placement within windshield is pefectly legal provided it is appropriately secured and legible. Does this mean that every meter maid will not write you a ticket? No but most shouldn't. It's minor effort to avoid most of the parking tickets.

Yes I did read it.

Did you read 5200 also? It specifically states "front" of vehicle. So wouldn't the windshield be the "middle" of the car? Also, the "clearly legible (CVC5201)" part is kinda shady just like the "modified exhaust" codes... If it's not in the front of the vehicle then it's not "technically" legible let alone if the windshield catches glare.

On top of that you cannot attach anything on the windshield to "secure" the plate. They can get you for that too. I was warned for the plate on the dash thing and he told me the violation but got one for the no plate. No way to win from the "man."
