Extra cases are cheap, I would have painted it if I felt so inclined to change the color of the camera. The vinyl looks cheap and tacky imho.

Any recommendations on the type of paint (plastidip?) and the best place to get a cheap replacement case? I know they are $40 from gopro themselves. Ill keep the vinyl till it fails, fades, or gets water damage (although its supposed to be water proof) then probably paint it like you have recommended.

I think they're < $30 on Amazon last I checked, as for paint, don't know, I'd imagine plastidip would be too thick.

Good call:
$27.99 & this item ships for FREE with Super Saver Shipping.
I'll prob just go ahead with painting my original case...its rock chipped to shit, and buy a spare if i screw up future housing mods.

Any rattle can from your local hardware store for plastics should work. Just prep it with some sandpaper, spray a few coats & wet sand + clear if you choose.

My thought was to paint the outside of the housing. The clearances are pretty small to have the camera be as snug in the case as it is, and I would worry that it would create a problem to add any paint to the middle because it would reduce the volume of the case.

What was I thinking cause it's not like they need a piece of foam to keep the camera snug or anything like that.
