There are red light cams in the Bay Area - where? They had them in DC and most were set with a hair trigger, so they'd catch people making a prudent decision to go through a yellow versus slam on their brakes.
there's countless ones in fremont and union city and i'm sure there's tons in the san jose/santa clara area.

Around Oakridge Mall there are quite a few red light cams:
- One RLC (red light cam) intersection between Best Buy and that one plaza with Red Lobster.
- The other RLC intersection is Blossom Hill x Almaden Expressway.
At SJSU, there's a fatty RLC on San Fernando and 9th St. For those of you that go to state, you can see it as you're coming towards campus from the 10th St. parking garage.

I never really noticed it either until I started driving up 9th St after exiting the parking garage. I dunno if it's just me but I think it's there to take photos of people who make right turns when that "NO TURN ON RED" sign is on.
