just be prepared to have a long wait.
the hostess reminds me of the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld.
"have a seat".
"what you want"
"go to table 4"

That guy who rates ramen on http://www.rameniac.com/ isn't very good.
His rating are not good. You know it's bad when he claims that ramen from the Bay Area (ie Kahoo) is as good as in Japan.
himawari - i believe their shio is supposed to be decent (only went once a few months after they opened)
kahoo ramen (have shio, shoyu, spicy) they are a bit inconsistent
santa ramen - not worth the hype. but if you like thick oily tonkotsu, this place is your only option. And, yes, the original location was better
ryowa - decent, although I usually order their chicken there
ramen halu - pretty pricey for a bowl of ramen...
maru ichi - speciality is kuroramen.
My fav that closed down is do henkotsu which kahoo replaced. Their speciality was ramen from tokushima prefecture in Shikoku island.
If you have eaten ramen in Japan, it's hard to eat ramen in the states, even in LA.
I'd post a pic of ramen in Japan from my flickr, but I just checked and haven't uploaded my pics from my trip 2 NYE's ago. I went to this place which was voted the best ramen in Japan a few years ago. *sigh*
Now for pho, my fav place is Pho Binh near 237/Lawrence. Their broth is very good and pretty consistent!

I have eaten ramen in japan, and yes it is hard to have "good" ramen in the states, which is why I asked. And while I disagree with most places posted, some I have not tried. I mean if I were to be brutally honest, I would give good ramen in japan a 10, and shin seng gumi in fountain valley a 8 on a good day, 5 on a bad day (and lately its been bad days). I will have to continue to explore. And I do prefer tonkotsu
