Default Recommended Bay Area Dealers

Hey guys/gals,

I live in San Jose and have been silently admirering this board for a while. I am now ready to purchase, only interested in '02 and will not pay over MSRP.

Can any of you recommend dealers (names of fleet managers or respectable sales execs would be awesome) within 200 miles of the Bay Area?

For those of you that are tired of these posts, I apologize in advance, but economic factors have changed (understatement) and I'm very interested in hearing experiences of Bay Area folks who have recently purchased their Stook.

TIA,

Jimbo

This is what I did to get MSRP in L.A.

1) Get the local paper, find all the honda dealerships local to you.
2) Call each of them, ask them if they have the color combo you want + options, etc.
3) If they have it, tell them you have one coming in at MSRP at another CA dealer in a couple weeks, but you don't want to wait. Tell them you'll come in and pick it up TODAY if they'll give you the same price.

Worked for me... Good luck!

El Cerrito Honda. Scott Thompson and Paul Morris, Internet sales manager & Sales Director. These guys will treat you well. I have visited and spoke with many, many, many sales guys at various Honda dealerships in the Bay area....most of them pretty seedy to say the least.. SF Honda is by far the worst, Honda of Marin next worse. Put it this way, I have been researching for months to find the right price and the right color and right year with the right dealership. My methodology was, pay attention to how they treat you before they sell you the car......it always determines how they treat you when you need to service your car.

I picked up my 2002 Suzuka Blue S2000 from El Cerrito Honda last thursday. I called up 2 days before, told them I didn't want to pay a premium...we went back and forth a little....I bought it for MSRP.....These guys are motivated to sell cars and win your service business. They treated me well.

Wanna save some time? Use Priceline.com and they will find you your car in california at a good price for a small fee. Well worth the money.

NewBlue,

Exactly the kind of info I am looking for. Thank you. Would it be OK to use you as a reference? You can email me privately at jsherhart@snapserver.com if you would prefer to keep it off the board.

Regards,

Jimbo

I just put a deposit down for the next allocation at Merced Honda (~2.5 hours from San Jose) for MSRP and no forced options. The guy I have dealt with:

Phil Gauthier
Internet Manager
Merced Honda
(800)734-8101

Seems like a straight shooter.

A buddy of mine just started selling hondas today at Honda of Oakland. His name is Jason Boatwright if you walk in, or you can PM me for his contact info. Since he's trying to get a bunch of sales under his belt ASAP, he's trying to sell as cheap as possible (didn't have exact #'s for me though, however I would expect this would mean MSRP).

Avoid Jim Doten Honda in Berkeley and the Honda dealer in San Francisco ... major ripoffs ... always.
