I agree with whiteflash here, but my rationale might be different.
By going faster in the rain, I get to my destination in less time, thus reducing the time on the road that I am exposed to other drivers who might hydroplane and crash into me.
This is just how I think about things.

Wouldn't it make more sense to avoid being on the road all together based on that philosophy?

My rational is that driving 65mph makes me feel like I'm walking my three legged dog with cerebral palsy, and I want to fall asleep. At least at 75mph the freeway has my attention a bit.
