I think you will find traffic in the Bayarea to be a lot like traffic in Chicago.
I would choose Davis, because of the University there you will have performing arts, night life and more culture and diversity.
In Vacaville you get an outlet mall and a budwieser factory.
Davis will probably cost you more to live in.
If you do end up living somewhere where you have to use the bridges, you can get a monthly fast pass that will give you a discount.
Unfortunately Vacaville is not a prime area to be in. Genetech built there facility there because there is a lot of cheap land.
It's all trade-offs right?
Good luck in your decision and I hope you get an offer.

Now I've been browsing the craigslist and realtor.com to get a feel for whats available in what price points and where.. etc..
Now on the map this place looks kind "out" there, but the prices are nice and the houses look nice.
Woodland. Bad or good?
On the weekend how long would it take me to get to SF?
I am used to driving quite a bit, I am in the boonies north of Chicago, and on the weekends it will take me about an hour to get into the city, but I chose to live out there to get a lot more house for my money. I'm thinking this is what it would be like. Which I don't have MAJOR qualms with. But is this a decent place to live?

Wow. Even without officially "looking" I've had like 4 people identify themselves as mortgage brokers and 3 as realtors. hehe. Thanks for the "concern" =)

they're building new houses in the benicia/vallejo area, and the location is pretty good. $3 a day builds up, if you wanna save money and be decently close to the city, go with vallejo. IMO its in the middle of the places where you wanna be.

How bad is the area? Like in all honesty. Would I feel safe leaving my S outdoors if I had too.....?
Also what's it like in Fairfield. I've found some nice prices on townhomes and condos in the area. Still not cheap by any means, but decent I guess. Vallejo has some decent looking places too, but the crime rate data isn't the most uplifting.
