i'd recommend vacaville, the city's pretty nice in general if you dont mind living far from the city. i live in suisun, 10 mins away from vacaville, i go there occasionally.
my dad owns a house over there and is currently looking for tenants to rent it out. its definitely a nice place to live in. IMO its safer than vallejo.

Well no job offer or anything yet. So don't jump the gun.

I just wanted to learn more about the area first before I considered the move.

Interesting how S2ki is such a great resource for non-s2ki related stuff. Where else could I find opinions and insights such as the ones stated above.

Thanks all.

Smart taste in cars often (not always ) translates into smart tastes in other things.

Another thing to consider is that if you live in Oakland, Hercules, or Concord, you will have to deal with the Benecia Bridge. In addition to paying $3 toll every single day, it's quite a h*llish commute (both north- and southbound).
What would you consider a hellish commute?

I know Cali traffic is bad but just don't know how bad.

I mean right now I live 18 miles from my work, but in the morning and the afternoon is still takes me like 45 minutes to get to and from work.

Is that what you are talking about?

Just wondering, what would my travel times look like from Hercules to Vacaville.

I know it'd be far, but I'd hate to live so far from the city that I'd never go.

Kinda like right now. I live about 50 miles from Chicago, so I don't hit the city that often.

hey tcho82. i'd say hercules to vacaville is about 30 miles give or take. if you're travelling from hercules in the morning to go to vacaville. it shouldnt be too bad. reason being that everyone in the morning is going the other way. travelling from hercules to vacaville, you're gonna go the direction opposite of SF. which is why you'll encounter less traffic.
i however commute from fairfield to san rafael. thats 40 miles of commute which usually takes me anywhere from 1 hr 30 mins to 2hr. depending on how bad the morning traffic is.
you're best bet would still be to go and live in vacaville if you're job's there, the housing's cheaper and less traffic to worry about.

I suppose that'd be the smart thing to do. But would I be bored out of my mind? Is there any night life or entertainment in the vicinity of Vaca? I know UC Davis isn't too far, but not sure how their campus life is like. How long would it take me to get to SF on the weekends from Vacaville?

Is traffic any better on the weekends?
