Not practical at all. I'm a college student now and I drive the S around school and trust me, it is a bitch to take care of. It's a nice car, but gas isn't all that great. And when you go to college you're going to drive more than just one person, and if that is a problem for you, then don't get an S. I have friends who have cars so it's okay for me. But it is a lot of trouble when you have to just transport 2 people.

Also, you can't even put those tubs you get at target in the trunk
Best advice so far from a "current" college student.

civic si is quite roomy. for a 32" i doubt it being able to fit with all the other stuff you are bringing. for your first year in college, concentrate in your classes! hahaha. if i hadn't bought the s2k, i think the civic would be a good sporty alternative. 8 frickin speakers, of course audio would be great. compare the the shifting from the s, the civic, i find was alot tougher-- especially the positioning of your seat to the clutch and whatnot. on the s, i had more leg room to play around with so my leg was always straight vs being in a position like you are sitting on a chair to reach the clutch and the shiftknob. i'm 5'4 so that has alot to do with why i think the s was perfect for me...and i live close to home. like fred said, get the ladies rather than being limited to space ^_^

Do you live in a dorm/apartment or with your parents? I was hoping to get some people who live a good distance away from home to give advice. If you do live with your parents and it is still so impractical, why do you have an '07 s2000? Transporting people is one of my least of concerns as stated before. But even so, who really wants to ride in a cramped back seat of a 2 door coupe? And what are these tubs?

Thanks for a useful comparison. I actually thought the civic si coupe was a hatchback with foldable rear seats. I guess I really should have inspected the car more. This and the cost means I'm no longer considering it.

plan b, get a DD first. manual with RWD so you can get the feel (of driving a RWD) if you still consider purchasing an s in near future.... (in my opinion btw.. biggrin.gif)
As far as I know, there is no RWD dd that will be suitable for college. If you are talking about a practice car like a miata or 240sx, I've already considered that, but it will be a hassle buying it and selling it within a year.

I'm surprised at how many of you guys brought up girls even though I never mentioned it. Maybe you guys bought the s2k for pickin up girls? Anyways I'm not the kind of guy who will take a bunch of girls in my car like you beasts

Anyways, I already know the s2000 is impractical so please stop with the same comments. I want to know what are practical cars that you are driving or have driven in college. Were they big enough to haul all your stuff from your apartment to home for the summer? Or did you have to get someone to come over with a truck? What other cars besides the ones I have mentioned should I be looking at?

I used to own an s2000, i was, and am still in college.

Whether you should or shouldn't buy one depends on many factors. If you plan on leaving it stock and DD'ing it, you should be fine. It'll be a hassle here and there, but it'll be well worth it. If it gets stolen, you'll have insurance.

I personally sold mine because i knew that something bad would happen to it while i was gone. I had no garage, and didn't know the area well enough to keep it protected from theft (loss of aftermarket parts). Other things like being able to graduate in a timely manner and working enough to be able to consistantly make a car payment and insurance were also things to consider.

In the end, i sold it, in hopes of landing a well paying job, and buying something i'd enjoy even more when the time is right. Now i drive a silver camry.. It's slow.. it's quiet.. it's boring.. And people assume i'm an old chinese lady..

i miss my s2000.

**** it man get an s2000. If I had an oppurtunity to get an s2000 at your age id do it. Take it slow learn how to drive the car and you'll be fine. I drove my S to school all the time and drive my cayman to school now. **** a daily driver, unless you have another nice whip that is. The only bad things I see is insurance is gonna KILL you and if you like modding your car its not gonna be cheap.

i also say go for the s2000, I had one as well in a cc and it was fine. Although right now I am transfering to a bigger college but the idea is the same. I used to have a integra and it was a good compromise; decent mileage, pretty fast, etc. Worst problem is that it gets stolen. Just get the s2000 you will be fine hands down.
