I'm currently in college and I DD my car with little trouble. It's a bit of an inconvenience at times when a lot of people want to go somewhere, or if I have to haul anything large, but I havent had too much of a problem with its size. (But then again, my first 2 years of college I had a miata, so to me the s2k's trunk is an upgrade.)
I honestly dont find space too much of a problem though. I've fit a full set of rims w/ tires, my dual exhaust, a front bumper...a lot of things into this car.
If you can afford the maintenance and gas, then I say go for it. Just make sure there's a car that you can borrow occasionally if you really need to move something big (or a lot)

If you ever consider UCSC then I say you should save your money and not buy the S2k outright. My experience with drivers in Santa Cruz has been dismal and no one here seems to know how to park in a slot. =\ I'd just keep that in mind if you decide to go there.
I know Shoti and Nitewing and it doesn't bug them. Basically if you can afford it then go ahead but in Shoti's case you have to have extra money to cover lifes... "surprises". Haters, random accidents that aren't your fault, etc. I leave my Evo at home and drive my parent's CRV around when I'm at school so I can leave it just about anywhere when I'm out as opposed to worrying about what I'll find when I get back from dinner or a movie.
S2k = Awesome car. DD maybe not. It's up to you tho. I'd spring for a MS3 tho.

I read reviews of the MS3 when it came out and they definitely made me want to drive one. I completely forgot about them. They are above my price range though, but I am considering the n/a mazda 3.
I'm wondering why you guys consider the MazdaSpeed 3 a daily driver, and not the s2k? It's still manual, and it's turbocharged. As for the one in LA, it's too far for me to check out
Also, I've always told myself that I would opt for automatic trans. for cars under 200bhp, but if I got a sports coupe like the scion tc or civic si, then I'd probably go with manual. If I were to get a 4-door like the mazda 3, then I'd get an automatic. Do you guys agree with me here?

i always had a hard time fitting my laundry into an s2000, it's not like my wardrobe is full of speedos and thong bikinis
i think you should choose a manual transmission no matter which car you pick, it's so much more fun
i'm suffering from first stage s2000 withdrawal. i've driven a brand new automatic transmission civic ex for the past 7 weeks now and i'm about ready to put it in a garbage can. so for now i've traded with my friend's 04 manual transmission civic hybrid, and it's so much more fun. he's got a pinched nerve in his shoulder so he thinks the autobox is a good break for him. but if he wants the hybrid back i'll just trade in the new car and i don't car how much of a depreciation hit i take

top up, average speed of 70 mph, always fresh oil, keep my air filter clean, tires inflated.
mods include, k&n intake which gave me a boost of 3mpg (without the k&n my average was 25mpg with it my average is 27-28mpg... if i did the math right thats about 12% increase?) i'm looking to see what the test pipe will do to gas milage now that its on... i expect an increase but i could be wrong... from the looks of it i won't be disappointed, 220 miles and i haven't hit half tank yet.
to accurately account for my gas milage, i always top off my tank when i fill to the point where i can see the gas.
and to the guy that mentioned that you should keep in mind that S only takes premium. think of it this way, if regular gas is $4 a gallon, premium should be about 30 cents more. premium would only be 7.5% more than regular grade. (someone please check my math)
just the little things that convince me that my s2000 is a great car.
oh yeah, regarding the space issue and the seats how often are you really going to be moving stuff? and... do you REALLY wanna be your friends' taxi driver? you dont want them carpooling with you using YOUR gas to get to where THEY need to be. and when you go to a party... do you REALLY wanna be the designated driver because you have the most space in the car?
also, for a tad bit more than 15k you could probably get a good AP2

S2k park outside in SF? Don't do it bro. I was in the same position as you when I was a high school senior. It was my dream car, but overall it would have been a headache had I got it when I was 18. IMO, I would get something else. Time will go by fast and next thing you know you'll be out of college making banks and you can buy whatever you want.
