Police Officer Career
#21
I worked at a starbucks right next to the police station in Fremont and learned a lot of info.
You have to be a citizen as far as I remember.
In fremont, starting pay is around $60k i believe. +10% if you have a bachelors degree
You start at 20.5 and are a officer by 21 (have to be 21 to carry a weapon).
My cousin is currently applying for the CC sheriffs dept, and she brought over the application for us to help her with. You have to give every last detail of where you lived for the past 10 years (literally everything). It's crazy how much stuff they require (but understandable).
Try applying in Fremont, the officers told me their hiring 20-30 new people by the end of this year. The pay might not be as great, but it's not as dangerous as Oakland is.... I say go for it. If I didn't have a career in Venture Capital, it's what I'd do for sure!

Just out of curiousity, can you pursue a career as a CHP or some type of law enforcement with any kind of criminal background?

btw, Fremont PD will be starting at $80k/yr very soon and that's not really amongst the top paid. Benefits also vary widely between agencies and another aspect to consider is their schedules.

Actually I have always been fascinated with a career in Law Enforcement as well..........hence my e46 m3 police car
I've been thinking about doing the "Reserve" force doing part time help around the station. Anyone know how that procedure works?

Well I'm going to worry about finishing my undergraduate degree for now, which will take another 3 years or so. And after I'm out, i'm going straight to the academy. Hopefully its not as bad as everyone says ... I'll do a couple ride alongs as well.
