Priceline has found my silver/red Stook in San Diego. I found out about that service on the S2000online forum, and was encouraged by the comments from forum members. Hard to believe it's gonna happen.

I got it!!

The price was $32,945, so $205 over MSRP--could have waited a bit, but I really wanted to get the Silver/Red color which will be gone in 2002. I think it will be the classic color for Stooks in the future. BTW, I also owe it to the forum that I knew that Silverstone would not be made in '02. Thanks again, guys!

The car is in p-e-r-f-e-c-t shape; had 9 miles on the odo. Fuller Ford/Honda in Chula Vista (south of San Diego) was the dealer, arranged through Priceline as I said. Robert Nadel, the internet manager, picked me up at the SD airport. It was an extremely pleasant experience. Reminded me of buying my first ever new car--also a classic--a 1970 BMW 2002. If I enjoy this new car half as much as that one, I'll be one happy cat.

Again thanks to you guys and our usual obsession with cars, I knew everything about the car when I arrived. I knew to ask about the plugs for the front bumper--and the salesman (another fellow named Gerry whom I didn't meet) gave me HIS OWN from his own silver Stook!!

I'm leasing the car through American Honda, for tax reasons (I'll be using the car for work--but just may be taking more scenic routes from Redwood City to San Francisco than previously.

For those of you lurking out there and thinking about getting a Stook--you gotta drive one!

My wife is flying to Burbank in the morning, and we'll drive up Highway One back to the Bay Area. Wifey finally gave in to my pleas for understanding. She's going to be surprised at how much happier her husband will be--but she won't have to wonder why!

Here's the info on the dealer:

Robert Nadel, Internet Sales Manager
E-Mail-Internet@thinkfuller.zipdsi.com

Website: www.thinkfuller.com

Phone: 619 656-3311

Robert was very upfront with me about everything. They didn't even ask me if I wanted extra stuff. Seems like that's their usual way of doing business. Robert has been doing internet sales for a long time.

For PriceLine, just look them up on www.priceline.com, and enter the needed info. A fellow named Ray Baldwin will contact you. They deal with about 150 dealers, I'm told, and insist on a response to your requested price within an hour. Things move very quickly--if a dealer has the color you want near your price, I suggest you answer as quickly as possible. PriceLine will charge me $50 for their service. I tried contacting every dealer in the Bay Area I could, and none of them had a Silver/Red. This particular dealer seems to order a lot of them in that combination.

Good luck!

Right on Stan...Be sure to obey your break in. VTEC will be screaming after 600 miles.

Hopefully you will have an easier time keeping out of VTEC than I did when I drove down Highway 1 towards San Diego. I lasted about 50 miles before I broke the resolution to keep it under 6000 rpms. Of course, my car was already fully broken in at the time.

Enjoy the drive back to the Bay Area.

btw: may I ask how you are financing the car? Dealer offers better rates than Credit Unions/Banks in general right?
