hahah sorry. that video wasn't too helpful but it was entertaining at least. i would suggest using the tutorials within photoshop to learn what the basic tools are and how to use them. once you get a hang of that, it's pretty much just messing around with the tools to see what works for the effects you want to create.
as far as reading goes i've found that friendsoft publications are pretty useful. foothill has their students purchase the "photoshop cs artistry: a master class for photographers and digital artists" by Barry Haynes and Wendy Crumpler. I haven't gone through the book myself, but it has a lot of tutorials for you to read and go through.
hopefully this helps. don't forget, google is your friend. GOOD LUCK!

i'm pretty delinquent on writing up that photoshop tutorial in one of the sticky threads, but for the most part, below is a list of functions i use and self taught (by tinkering around)
levels
saturation
shadows/highlights
brightness/contrast
layering (and erasing, to isolate a layer)
cropping
noise reduction filters (free if you do a simple search online)
unsharp mask
clone stamp, blur, smudge
somtimes dodge/burn
that's about the gist of the tools i use in photoshop....anything else is too advanced for me...but knowing how to use the above tools can easily yield the pictures i've posted.
