Thumbs up Photography Camera Experts (Vu, John...?)

I'm a bit in the stone ages when it comes to digital SLR's as I am still in the 35mm era with my old Nikon.....hahaha

I have a slew of 35mm Nikon lenses but all of them are non auto-focus I think....

Dropped by Ritz the other day to do some shopping but was overwhelmed by all the choices they had so was hoping to get some good advice here

Was hoping to get something that can shoot like 5 fps and have a 2.5"-3" viewfinder but besides that I really don't know what is important to have.

some questions:

1) Can I use my old Nikon lenses with the new Nikon digital cameras to save money?

2) Any particular brand is better than another?

Right now I'm looking at the Canon EOS-30D body with the 28-135 IS AF zoom lense and the Nikon D80 SLR body with the Nikon 18-135mm AF lense.

Any help is appreciated as I would like to make my purchase this week

thanks,
rick

I don't know a great deal about Nikon other than that Canon is better.

But seriously, I think the lenses will probably work, but being that they are non-auto focusing, why bother.

As far as the 28-135 Canon lens, its suppose to be decent for its price range.

28-135 is decent, but I still like the 24-105 better

If youre going to go mid grade Canon, go 5D with a EF 85mm f/1.2 L II USM for portraits/closeups, a EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Len for every day shooting versitility, and a 100-400mm zoom lens. reason why i would recommend this is because the full frame 5D has enough features on it to allow you to grow. Not to say the others will not, but this is my personal setup preference.

5D + 85 1.2L = bliss.

Judging by what body/lens he is already looking at, the 5D with any of thoses lenses is way out of his budget. Heck, the body alone is, plus the fact that the 5D does not met his requirement of 5 fps.

Thanks guys for all the input and advice

I forgot to mention my budget is about $1500 with lenses for now....

What does the 5D cost anyways? I'm no pro...........far from it!
