Photo examples for Fred
So the last two weeks I've talked with Fred and Matt about cameras, and more specifically specs like higher noise at various ISOs.
So, I figured I'd link up some various examples I have online:
Football, ISO 100, f/2.8, 110mm (Sigma 70-200USM)
Before/After a little toning in photoshop (burning/dodging/sharpening - all that's legal for photojournalists)
Hockey, ISO 400, f/2.8, 200mm (Sigma 70-200USM)
Everyone loves fights
Gymnastics at CMU, ISO 1600, f/2.8, 42mm (Sigma 24-70)
Lowlight with fast moving subject - my friend Steph
Gymnastics at Stanford, ISO 3200 (yuck), f/2.8
Example 1 Sigma 70-200USM, Example 2 Canon 24-70L
Rob Reider (mime), ISO 400, f/2.8
During 'Storyfest' at CMU
Wedding, ISO 400, f/2.8, 52mm (Canon 24-70L)
Old Roommates wedding - slow shutter bring out background, strobe bumped three stops to freeze action and illuminate subjects on the nearly pitch black dance floor out on the lawn that night.
Casey, ISO 200, f/7.1, 52mm (Sigma 24-70)
Mittens - slow shutter for ambient light, high depth for field for sharpness, strobe to light subject
ok... I'll stop with the links... But, I figured some of you may be bored sitting around (those of us who have work today and couldn't make the group drive)

Holy crap....ok now I really need to get a true dSLR camera. I'll be looking in the Sunday ad for sales.
Thanks John for the examples.
The mittens pictures sorta looks like a Banana Republic ad.

I still need to figure out what my domain name is for my website. fredwong.com has already been bought by a Frederick Wong. I've even offered him money and he declined. Biotch!

john, i love the first shot, but it looks like a little too much usm was used for my tastes.
other than that, the rest of the shots are great, especially the mime & mittens one. i'm definitely jealous of your 20d's 1600 iso noise where my d70's 1600 looks like your 3200

I think you're thinking of "IS", Image Stabilization on the Canon Lenses... USM is Ultra Sonic Motor on Sigma lenses - they don't have any sort of IS...
And yeah, the 1600 on the Canons is pretty clean, and you can get surprisingly clear prints from it when you have to.
I don't mind debating cameras Green Tea, we all know Canon's are better anyway. Hahaha, kidding... to each is own.
