Hmm... are bichon frises easy to train? And do they get that nasty reddish fur around their eyes/mouth like white poodles do? I'm thinking of getting one of these for my Mom because she's retired and needs a friendly companion.

Like all puppies, you have to show them who's boss. Basically, you ignore them when they throw fits and only pay attention to them when they calm down. You want to reward good behavior only, not to punish bad behavior.
So far, he can sit and jump up on command. He is getting better at being potty-trained. Bichons rock!

I definitely need to make sure the bichon is potty-trained before giving him/her to my mom. She'll freak out for sure if the dog takes a dump on the carpet. XD

My dog-in-law is a Welsh Corgi. Super cute, dumb as a post. And he's a bit overweight.
My niece has a Bichon Frise named Buddy. Same situation with him, but in his first six years he was the most hyper living being I've ever met. He's calmed down now.
