Default Parking ticket 411...

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone knows the answer to this...

I park in a monthly PAY lot everyday. It gets very full all the time and sometimes cars park in the handicap spaces and in the aisle leaving the keys with the attendant. The other day when I went to my car, I notice that one of the cars had a ticket and thought it was odd since we are in a pay lot. I looked at it and it was for parking in the handicap spot, he got fined $275! Is this legal? The lot attendant told me the officer just gave that guy a ticket and went away. It isn't a free lot like Safeway but a pay lot. Should I not ever park in those spaces even though I pay to park there?

Thanks

If it's private property, I think that the owner of the property can place fines for violations within his property, but since it's not public property, I don't see how an officer (non-private security guy) could ticket something like that. At least, that's what I think.

Even if you pay you still can't park in the space. Handicap people still need a space when they pay to park. The lot is still like a safeway parking lot, even though you pay it's still open to the public. I got a ticket for parking in a handicap parking space. I didn't know it was a handicap spot, the paint was near gone and there was no sign. The ticket cost me around $400

I think many of the pay lots are under city requirements to have handicapped spaces available as part of their permit to operate. In order to make sure that they follow through, I think that local law enforcement may indeed have jurisdiction to cite such violators. I would think that if the attendent had the key, this would have been less likely to happen.

I steer clear of those blue spots whenever possible. Those fines are HEAVY!
