If you go to school there, then you should pay it, because most schools will place holds on your diploma, and perhaps also your ability to register for classes, if you have any outstanding debts with them. Also, if you continue to park on campus and have unpaid tickets, you might get a boot lock on your wheels one day.
On the other hand, if you don't go to school there and neglect to pay the ticket, then the chances of UC police going after you for it are likely lower than if it were the regular city police. When I was at UCLA, some people I knew racked up quite a few unpaid tickets with no consequences.

Have you read wantone's 3 Year Old Parking Ticket, Shall I Pay It? thread? They managed to track him down after 3 years, so I'd say pay the ticket for peace of mind.

I have very bad news for you: you have to pay this! The key fact here is that the UC Berkeley police are REAL California police officers, NOT just college cops. This has many annoying ramifications, one of them being that unpaid tickets eventually percolate over to the DMV. (Another really annoying thing is that the UC Berkeley police can -- and routinely do -- give traffic tickets on surface streets near campus.)
AFAIK this all dates back to the 1960s, when Berkeley students were protesting all the time. Ronnie Reagan and the California legislature decided to make it easier for the University police to make arrests by turning them into "real" police officers. It has been that way ever since.

^^ That reminds me, there's been many posts about people getting fix-it tickets for not having a front plate on the Mt. Hamilton drive. The Mt. Hamilton Observatory is policed by the UC Berkeley police, so more evidence that they do give out "real" tickets.
