open road rallies - anyone thought about it?
Apparently there are couple organizations that hold legally sanctioned open-road average-speed rallies in eastern Nevada. There are a variety of speed classes. Looks like they gravitate towards ~100-mile stretches of deserted highway (pun intended).
Anyone thought about doing this? It's probably a blast, although it looks like mostly muscle car guys due to the long straights.

From what I've seen at the Big Bend Open Road Race, it's a pretty ballsy thing to do. Those cars are hitting serious speeds on roads that, quite frankly, are not designed for it. You're usually talking fairly rural highways whose state of repair is not exactly what you'd call ideal. Not a big deal for day to day, but at 120+ that pothole or unevenness takes on a whole new life.

Isn't the silver state classic where they try to break 200 mph? IIRC that's where daijiro inada crashed the JUN 350 Z?
