Default Is this normal?

So I happened to be removing the carpet from my S2000 and I discovered a layer of what I think is an adhesive backed aluminum sheet? The previous owner told me that he applied a layer of sound deadening paint to the inside of the car but he said nothing about the aluminum sheeting. There are two strips on each side of the transmission tunnel.

Should I be concerned? I've always wondered why there is so much heat coming from that area...

no comment on that aluminum sheeting, but there's a lot of heat coming from the transmission tunnel in my S too. thinking about adding some sort of heat shield/barrier
