I always drive w/ the top down but w/ passenger window up and driver side window down.

I heard on Miata.net that this combo (or the opposite) reduces wind/noise more than both windows up... True?

False, one window down, there's actually more noise. It's still more quiet to have both windows up. I'm used to the noise so I don't mind.
