This area is priced expensive no matter where you live. It's all good, even in the hood (where i live) its okay. Sure it doesn't have gated parking (cars still get stolen from gated lots) but I had the top down for six straight months, parked outside without any problems...... **knocking on wood***

i used to live in north park by rivermark in a studio apt that was about $1250/month. it was ridiculously overpriced for just a studio but in regards to a community, i got what a paid for since it was very nicely kept and brand new.
there are a lot of apt complexes by the area that are a little bit cheaper and older. the only name i can remember is mansion grove.
as far as condos, my complex is selling 1 bdrms for 345-375k and 2 bdrms for about 450k. it's a little bit too late to jump into this one if you're looking for an investment, but i'll keep my eye out for you if you're interested in any way. some people are also renting out the units but i have no clue what the going price is. note that a benefit in living in santa clara is that we have our own power company (silicon valley power) that's significantly less than PG&E. on avg, i spend $22 for electricity per month for my 1 bdrm.
practically all these complexes have gated underground parking

I think we can add another S2000 member to my apt complex. A one bedroom will run you about $1200. You can be my new neighbor. Its S friendly and with gated underground parking. Henry is my neighbor and he'll vouch for this complex too.

I used to live at Carlyle @ Hope+Lick Mill - nice place, but felt a bit like a hotel. Most of those places feel a little hotel-ish. My friend lives across the street at that other place.
THey do have a fireplace interconnecting living/bedroom... pretty nice place imho
