New Laptop :what do you recommend?

does anyone in here really use a mac for editing as their personal computer? i love the argument for macs in regards to editing and such, but as stated before, it really does seem that people buy it for the name and the looks. best of both worlds while doing the dual OS...what's the best of leopard, and when will you use it?
maybe this thread hit a personal note with me because my brother opted for a mac when he doesn't do anything but surf the internet and watch occasional videos. for something like that, you might as well buy a budget laptop.

I like the new Macs but don't quote me on that.
the Dell's are the best bang for the buck. You can buy refurbs (surf the site at 2am for good deals) and sometimes dell has KILLEr coupons which render them half the cost of the compeition (ie Lenovo).

If you feel that you really want to own a laptop and you're not sure why, then an Apple is probably the best for that.

I personally do not use it as I'm not that hardcore, but my friends who are indy film producers/directors/photographers all use final cut and aperture and swear by them.
They are however not running this stuff on macbooks.... more like dual G4's or G5's.

I'm a big fan of Dell D series notebooks. I support ~100 of them and I see very few hardware failures. They are definitely a good buy though not as "sexy" as a Macbook. Did I also mention they are faster.
I personally owned 2 Dell laptops and my work uses Dells too.
